Voices of the marginalised in R.K. Narayan’s novels

Author(s):

Dr. Joginder Singh Ahlawat

Abstract:

The category of characters which forms a significant feature of Narayan's world consists of borderline people: sanyasis, sorcerers, recluses, criminals, and the like. In fact, Narayan's creativity expresses itself, to a great extent, through a fascination with people who are at the borders of social life. All societies are filled with such people. These marginal or liminal people include those who lack the normal social identities and who appears at the fringes of the social order.
