Abstract:

This article explores the role of music education in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, particularly focusing on its connection to Sri Rama Bhakti (devotion to Lord Rama) and spirituality. It examines how music education - institutions and sabhas (organisations) in these states inevitably impart knowledge of Carnatic music, serving as platforms for nurturing students' spiritual quotient through the teachings of renowned composers like Tyagaraja and Ramadasu. This article also highlights the significance of Rama Navami celebrations in the Telugu states, especially in light of recent developments such as the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Furthermore, it explores how the spiritual essence of Rama Bhakti transcends geographical boundaries, contributing to the global reach of Carnatic classical music and culture.
