Mythical narratives and anti-colonial discourse in Raja Rao’s Kanthapura

Author(s):

Dr. Garima

Abstract:

The research paper analyses the importance and relevance of integrating mythological echoes into Raja Rao's esteemed book, Kanthapura. Mythology is an essential element of the cultural fabric of any nation. Every village in India has its unique origin story, which may be either substantiated or unsubstantiated. Rao diligently utilised several mythologies in his Kanthapura to construct the narrative framework of the tale. The author utilised a variety of symbols, including many myths, to illustrate the cultural, economic, and social conditions of India during British colonial rule. This essay explores the central narrative of Kanthapura by establishing a legendary link between Lord Rama and Mahatma Gandhi. The iconic symbols of Achakka, Moorthy, and the community of Kanthapura are of considerable importance throughout the tale. The topic of the work is explicitly articulated in this situation. This study seeks to clarify the various hidden cultures, rituals, and practices of ancient India and their historical significance.
