R.K. Narayan’s universal character: Male

Author(s):

Joginder Singh Ahlawat

Abstract:

Any society consists of men as well as women and can not be complete without both of them. Many revolutions have taken place, woman has emerged as a liberated woman and yet we find man to be a dominating figure since time immemorial, though weightage to his role varies from time to time. In Narayan’s novels, in his world of Malgudi, Male characters dominate as the stories are stories of ‘heroes’-men. After studying the male characters in R.K. Narayans works it can be safely concluded that though they are citizens of Malgudi-they have been presented with such a touch that they become citizen of whole world and all societies.
