Gandhi’s feminist political activism and Rokeya’s female consciousness: A comparative analysis

Author(s):

Sameena Shabnam

Abstract:

In the early 20th century Mahatma Gandhi and Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain both became the most influential and powerful figures in the history of India. Both Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain and Mahatma Gandhi had the same vision for the future of the women. Living in the different parts of the country they both worked for the education and empowerment of women in their own unique ways. By challenging the stereotypes and the patriarchal society they encouraged and supported women to come out of the four walls of the house and see the world through the eyes of knowledge and education and contribute towards the advancement and betterment of the society in general and women in particular.
