The Sanskrit critical tradition with alternate period of drought has been alive till 17 th century. Many writers with immense faith in the traditional past of India have tried to revive interest in Classical Sanskrit heritage and establish its validity for contemporary Indians. Such sophisticated tools of analyses available should minimize our dependence on Western Scholarship. The applicational models of Indian theories are helping modern readers to make an assessment of literature in English. The present study is an attempt to show that Girish Karnad’s play Nagamandala bears a striking charm, alluring qualities and elegance of expression caused by varna-vinyasa-vakrata (phonetic obliquity).
